Being new to betta keeping and upon reading articles about bubble nests, some say it is the sign of a healthy betta. While others say not to worry if a betta doesn't build bubble nests at all. Other articles say it depends on their personality, some build nests others don't. Mine does not build bubble nests, and he is happy with a curious personality. I play with him by placing my finger up against the glass, he swims up to my finger flares up swims away, swims back etc.

I have three male bettas, only one has ever made a nest. Just twice in 6 years lol they have identical tanks, heat, filter, light, decorations and food variety/water change schedule?
Most will build bubble nests if they are mature enough (or read) to breed, or if they are happy and healthy.

Usually when they make a bubble nest, they are mature enough and ready breed.
In the wild, when the males are mature enough and ready to breed, they will make a bubble nest and wait for a female to come along. Then the breeding process begins. (You can find out more on that, in my research paper: https://www.fishforums.net/threads/betta-research-paper.465208/)

bettas will usually become less active with a fast flowing water and do not appreciate being pushed around their home
