Last night I came home and found my female betta to be in the breeding trap with all my fry. Hrmmm... interesting.

That means that the betta must have jumped like half an inch out of the water to get in there! Yikes!

She killed one of my fry, but then I found another fry this morning swimming around ouside of the breeder net. So I lost a fry and gained a fry.

Now make a mini hoop and teach her to jump through it - you can always add the fire later when she is proficient at it. Then take her on the road to lemonade stands/garage sales/and car washes. You should earn enough for her next boyfriend in no time.

ALASKA

I'm glad she landed in the breeder and not on the floor :)

Do the males have a tendancy to jump? In other words do I need a hood for a 2.5g?

It really depends on the fish, though most males jump less often than females - their heavy tails weigh them down!! :p (Unless they're plakats.) I would still suggest a hood, you never know what is gonna happen and I know you don't want to come home to a crispy fish.

My male betta Hades has been trained to jump out of the water to nip food out of my fingers. I keep lids on all of my tanks.

One of my bettas tends to jump when I open the feeding hood. He never jumps out of the tank, just across the surface or just below the surface of the feeding hood. I have to wait for him to jump before I feed him
