Hey y'all,
I've had my first betta for about two months now, and he's certainly a very charming and responsive fish  . He'll jump from the water to eat off of my finger, (don't worry, I only let him do that in the middle of the tank, and my hands are free of oils) and when I feed him, I can direct him towards floating pellets with my finger. Though much of that is probably part instinct, I still think he's pretty intelligent. :p
How smart do you think these fishies are? What's your brainy betta story?

Amos flares madly when he sees me twisting the lid off the pellet jar. He looks up at the top of the water when I reach up there to drop pellets in. When he doesn't see them, I can direct him to the pellets by pointing him to it. It kind of resembles when someone is on the runway and directing planes w/2 flashlights

He definitely knows the diff between me and other people because when I go over to the tank and look in really close, he comes swimming over and flares, doing the happy snake dance. When someone else comes over he swims around nervously and flares & puffs up his fins.

One other cute story about him - I'm in the process of cycling a 5 gallon hex tank for him - the other day I set it up about 2 feet away from his current (2.5 G) tank. Since I set up the new tank, whenever I sneak a peek of him, he is staring longingly in the corner over at the new tank.

He knows. :shifty:

Just wondering, does it pinch or hurt when a betta eats food from your hand? I have been too scared to try it! :D

Seeing as I let my 6'' Oscar eat Cichlid pellets from my hand without pain, Im thinkin it would be a painless experience.

DB :fish:

hehe No it doesn't hurt...they don't have teeth ;).

Nope, doesn't hurt at all. It's actually really fun- you should try it! :fun: Uther (my betta) doesn't have the best aim, it usually takes him a few tries to actually get the pellet off of my finger. He'll jump about an inch out of the water to get it. I figure it's yet another way to interact with my betta. I'm afraid to pet him, so this way I can still touch him.
