Betta in a castle

I got this ceramic castle and put it into his bowl as soon as I got him. There are holes, but really small holes. He accually goes in it! I sometimes see him inside the castle. I always thought that those were just for decoration but I guess it also serves as a hidey hole! So now I guess I don't have to look for a hidey hole anymore.....just as long he doesn't get stuck inside or something...

I see little bits of green algae lining the holes in which my betta goes in and out. Will the algae cling onto him or harm him? I rinsed it with SUPER HOT water, but they don't appear to be dead. He just went in and went out right when I was typing this right now. Is the algae harmful? And how do I get rid of it?

Also, does putting seashells into his bowl harm him? I heard that they raise the PH of the water...

alagae is harmless just ugly and grows everywhere its a plant shouldn't of uesed soap to get rid of it i would just get a alagae sponge celaner and do some hard scrubbing in some de chlorinated water!!!

Oh, and are bettas supposed to turn pale in cold water? He's so pale sometimes that I can see his innards! Scary! That's bad, right?
