QUOTE(b.c.f.c @ Nov 16 2005, 06:47 PM) in ur sig it says you have 1 male and 1 female betta in ur 72 gal, i would advise you take your molly out of the 2.5 gal and put ur betta in the 2.5 instead and add the molly to the 72 gal.you should not have 1 male and 1 female bettas together as you can come across all sorts of probs but i advise you post this in the betta section as theres many people who will give you great advice there.

male or female betta in the 2.5?
they haven't been a problem to eachother yet.

Either, I'd say male though.

Exactly, yet. All it takes is one meeting, one invasion of territory or one istance when one is not ready to breed for one to die.

ok, thank you, i'll do that today.
btw, how long do i acclimate it before transferring?

To acclimatise i do the following
Put the betta in a bag (like a sandwitch one) but make sure the corners are taped up so it doesnt get stuck, or even better would be a little cyclinder tub.
Place the tub/bag in the new tank water and leave it for 15 mins. THen add a slight bit of tank water.
Then leave another 15 mins, and add more tank water.
After another 15 mins you can add it into the new tank properly. Leave the lights off for at least an hour to let it settle.

i just float the bag for 20 minutes then I cut the bag open and add some water to the bag then wait 5 minutes and then I take a net and scoop them out and put them in the new tank. Never hurt or loss a fish yet :D

Or if you use the same water source for the tanks, and the tanks are about the same temp, you don't really need to aclamize.
When I switch around my bettas in different bowls, i never aclimize them
