Hi all long time no speak...
I havent been on here for yonks.
I have a question about my female betta. I have had 2 in the tank now for a long time now. They tollerate each other very well. I fully intend on upping the sorreity. a few days ago i noticed 1 was looking rather fat, like she had over eaten, just sat on the bottom looking miserable. I took her out and put her in a jug for a few days with some myxazin. she didnt go any further down hill and even survived a jump out of the jug @
Her colour faded alot like she was lonely, so i put her back in the tank again. Her scales from above do look slightly pineconned in a few odd places but nothing worse than if they had overeaten. Shes active now, eating well and she has pooped. I noticed when i put her back in the tank she has a slight white protrusion from her anus.......what could this be? Some say she is pregnant...but she has never been in contact with any males only the other female. I DO have male platy in the tank, is it possible they could mate??
The reason i ask is....yesterday i watched one male platy, and he was chasing her around twisting his "manhood" around towards her anus trying to mate with her.
at one point he "squirted" semen into the water. Ive noticed the other female is starting to look plumper today too.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN??
IS SHE ILL??
IS IT FROM THE JUMP OUT??
WHAT IS THE WHITE PERTRUSION??

A Very confused HayzH here.....

Ok, first of all just a quick summary of betta reproduction: Females are not livebearers. When they are healthy, they will periodically fill up with eggs and their ovipositor (that white protrusion you're noticing) will extend a little bit. If not bred, the female will do one of two things; her body will either reabsorb the eggs without releasing them, or she will release them. They look like tiny snowflakes. If the eggs are released, she or another fish in the tank will probably eat them. It is not possible for platys and bettas to interbreed, but obviously that doesn't stop them from trying XD I think the platy must be picking up on the pheromones from the betta that say "I'm fertile!" and that's why he's trying to breed with her. If he's stressing her out too much I'd remove one of them from the tank until this is all over with. The eggs should be gone within about a week, just keep feeding her normally. It is normal for this to happen every couple of months until your betta is too old to reproduce.

wow..thanks for the reply....
Thats very interesting.
she still has this protusion..and is still fat. Shes still eating and pooping...swimming around...i just find this odd..lol
xx

just like to update this post.

She never recovered, and the pineconing continued, till she passed away. The white protrusion never went and she just stopped eating.
I examined her (PM) and nothing abnormal was found inside her.
I have 2 others now that are starting to bloat.....wth have i got in my tank????
