the kits that I have dont really give me exact numbers, they have strips of paper that change color, according to the fish store however, the only thing that is off is the ammonia and the water being a bit hard...
I'm really mad at the fish doctor lady whom I took advice from. She told me to leave tap water out for 48 hours and that would remove all the ammonia from it. I did that and then did a 75% water change (this was before I read the post susggesting only 40%). Then, the nex day, I took another water sample in to get tested and they said the ammonia was SUPER high! They acted like I was stupid for not using water treatment but I told them at the start that I was a novice and asked for their 'expert advice' and thats what she told me to do. They call the place a fish hospital for pete's sake! grrr...
so they gave me a bunch of this stuff called aquamel I think and I dumped it in his tank, it looks like he's breathing easier now at least. I'm taking another water sample there tonight but last night they said everything was right on target except for the ammonia. hopefully now the ammonia will be in range.
he seems to recognize me more now though....he doesnt hide in his house anymore but he seems to wanna wedge himself in the corner all the time. sometimes he'll swim to the top for air and then when he comes back down, he just bumps nose first into the gravel and sits mostly upside down for a while. but when I come home, he comes over and wedges himself into the corner closest to me and looks at kinda like he used to. I go home every lunch break to see him...
should I try to feed him? do you think he's in a lot of pain? Does he wedge himself in the corner because he's trying to get away from the light? and why does he sometimes just plunk nose first into the rocks but he seems like he recognizes me...so I dont really think he's blind.
I'll try to get you a more exact result on what the ammonia, nitrate, etc is tonight. any more thoughts, comments, ideas?
I appreciate all your assistance! I just wanna save my friend or at the very least, minimize his pain. Thank you!
