hi, i'm fairly new to bettas, i've had this little guy, tenchi for over a year now, keep him in a 2g tank with filter, but still change the water every 2 weeks, feed him 5 hbh betta bites 2x daily and it seemed to work for about a year, then in the past month i've noticed him becoming bloated... he still swims around happily, makes bubbles and such, but hes just becoming noticibly bigger on the front part of his body (i'd say in a month his stomach area has bumped out to about 3/4 of an inch) and its beginning to worry me alot, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what i may do to help the poor little guy out :-(

Well, you've had Tenchi for a fairly long time so it's probably just him getting a bit of a beer belly (or betta bite belly :p) as he matures a bit more.

But 10 pellets a day does seem like a lot.... remember, a bettas stomach is about the size of it's eye. I give my adult male about seven a day.

Just to rule out the possibility of illness, when you look at Tenchi from the top, do his scales look normal? Or do they protrude out like a pinecone? Is he pooping frequently?

Try, once a week, replacing a meal of BB's with a little bit of defrosted pea. The fibre should help clear him up.

I would try cutting his pellets down to around 6 a day. (I know it's hard cuz they're such little beggers!) Give him a cooked de-shelled pea cut into quarters or eighths and maybe bump his water changes up to once a week. Good luck!
