Betta fungus.

Okay...To make a long story short...The betta that I kept in my one gallon tank died from a fungal infection. I cleaned the tank out and bought a new betta to replace him. I put him in the tank and today I noticed the he was staying low to the ground and had a light coating of fungus on him...So I took him out of the tank, changed the water and boiled all of the gravel and the plants that are in the tank just to kill any fungus that might be lingering around. I also treated him with Maroxy. Right now his chance of survival is 50/50 I'd say. He doesn't look to good but there also isn't anymore fungus on him either which is a good thing. I guess my two questions are:

1.) Was cleaning ih tank and boiling the gravel and the plants and such a good idea or should I have donw something different?

2.) As far as medication goes, Maroxy seems to be the "fungus cure-all. Would you personally use something else??

You should have left everything in the boiling water until it cools down to room temperature.

Put him in a separate bowl with BettaMax solution located in a quiet and dimly lit area is the first thing that comes to mind.

I let the water cool to room temerature and then put the gravel back in the tank,
