hi all
can anyone tell me how old my betta fry will be when they get the split in there tails they are double tails and they are 6 weeks old and colouring up.

As soon as you can see the caudal, you should see one or 2 lobes apparent. also, you will see a difference in their dorsal with the extended trait as long as the anal fin. That's when I could tell I had DTs in my spawns. I would think by 6 weeks you could tell.

ow sugar none have a split tail some have massive dorsal fins very long, what happening with them am i getting a new type lolol

Hi Clover,

Indeed you should see the DT trait as soon as the caudale become visible. Here is a bit of a blurry picture of a 2 wk old DT from one of my spawns:

The broad dorsals you see in your fry probably indicate the presence of only one copy of the DT gene in these fish (heterozygous). The fish are then thus DT carriers and a broad dorsal is a typical sign of this :D.

Good luck!

Many greetings from the Netherlands,

Joep
