Hi all
my betta's have recently spawned 2 days ago and the female was promptly removed.
I have just minutes ago checked on the progress of the male's work and noticed that in the tank there are little white things skipping around the tank they are very small and very white,is this the fry?
i always assumed that it took at least 3 days to get to this stage but i am at it within 48hrs is this right?

cheers all

some can even hatch within 24 hours, mine took 30 hrs... congrats on your new borns keep us up to date :)...

ps my ones hatch earlier on this week, and now they are swimming around looking for food all the time  hehe, urs should be free swimming within a day or two

thanks folks
it is now 5hrs short of 3 days now and i'm getting a little edgy with it because the bubble nest is all but gone now except for a few bubbles here and there.
i cant decide wether or not to remove the male now or wait 2 more days.
also the floor of the tank is getting a little dirty so i popped in a carbon sponge air filter to help.Maybe i shouldn't have done this but i'm sure i would have had no fry to raise had i not..
i'm a little scared of syphoning off the bottom of the tank as i think these are that small i'd suck them up to.

So the question is how would you guys do it?

thanks for responding

If the fry are free swimming (swimming horizontally) then take the father out. As for the bottom of the tank, after a few days once the fry are swimming stongly, I carefully start vacuuming the bottom with a homemade vacuum made of a straw and airline tubing and aquarium sealant (the sealant is to attach the straw to the airline tubing). I still vacuum up alot of babies though, so I siphon into something I can then easily eye dropper out the babies and put them back in the tank. I also keep ramshorn snails in my spawn/fry tanks, they do a marvelous job of keeping the tank clean, and their poops are very easily vacuumed.

Hope that helps :)

Well i'm now at the 5 days period and thats exactly 5 days to the hour or writing this.
i did take the male out yesterday and he's happy.
there seems to be a decreasing amount of activity in the tank, but the strange thing is there are still a few diving around the side of the tank but there are also much smaller white things also darting up and down the tank so small i have to strain my eyes to see them.
i think my concern now is that maybe i have lost all but a few of the spawn or shall i give it a few more days to see if they become more detailed, just so i know that what i am seeing are newborn betta's
