hi all, i was juz wondering, with betta fry wen they hatch and hav started free swimming, can you feed them the egglayer liquid fry food, or will they only eat microworms? im hoping they will eat the liquid fry food coz it is hard to get a microworm culture where i live
thanx 4 any help :)

It will be difficult, but not impossible. You can also use boiled egg yolk, that's messy so you'll have to keep the water extra clean.

Do you plan on starting a baby brine shrimp hatchery?

well i could possibly get a brine shrimp hatchery, i hav read a lil about them but could u giv me sum more info on them plz. also could u tell me more about the egg, thanx heaps

The liquifry stuff actually isn't food for the fry, but food for the infusoria in the tank. So you'll want to make sure there are plants in the tank to promote infusoria to feed. Live food is so much better if you can get it, either MW's, Vinegar Eels and/or BBS. If you can get the BBS eggs (which can be done via the internet if your LFS doesn't stock them), hatching them is VERY easy. What I use is a 2L plastic soda bottle that I've cut the bottom off and screw the lid in very tightly. I put 1 pint of water to 2 tsp. of aquarium or kosher salt (DO NOT USE TABLE SALT), a drop of dechlorinator (I'm not positive if this is needed, but I figure better safe than sorry) and up to a 1/4 tsp of eggs. They then need aerated, so I attach a straw to some airline tubing and attach an airstone on the other end (attached with aquarium sealant) and put it in so the airstone is sitting in what used to be the neck/lid of the bottle. This then sits in a beanie container. Depending on temp and light they will start to hatch in 6-48 hours. Mine are in a heated room that stays between 73-80F and get natural daylight during the day, and within 24 hours all the eggs are hatched.

To harvest them I just pull out the airstone stick, cover with a towel so no light gets in and after a few minutes, all of the live BBS will sink to the bottom (into the neck of the bottle). I use a turkey baster to syphon some out and squirt them into a BBS net, letting the water drain back into the hatchery. Then I rinse the net with the BBS into some treated water in a glass and eye dropper however much the tank needs.

This explanation seems long but it's really very simple. You can also do a Google search to find some diagrams and other methods (everyone has their own way, but basically they're all the same).

Hey, I bought my hatchery from http://www.aquadirect.com/store/customer/

Had it shipped out all the way to the Middle East with decapsulated artemia cysts..

Haven't used it yet though, waiting for some fry!
