I have a lovely Betta, called Charlie, he is in my 10 gallon tank, on his own. I moved him from his little 5 gallon tank, to a nice biggish 10 gallon tank, a few days ago, he's doing really well.
I was thinking about getting some neon tetras, to put in there with him. Is this a good idea, or would he try an kill them, he has always been on his own since i bought him 4 months ago so i dont know how he would get along with other fish he seemed okay in the fish shop where we bought him he was in a tank with other fish.
What do you guys think should i go for it or not, if so how many neon tetras could i have in my 10 gallon tank. What other fish get on with Bettas.

Well provided he isn't violent I would think you could have a shoal of 5 or 6 neon tetras B) HOWEVER!! always one of those!

Your new tank probably hasn't cycled yet did u bring over gravel/filter/water from the old tank, all helps with bringing bacteria to start up with. I would recomend buying a Ammonia, NitrAte and NitrIte test kits.

So to sum up don't get neons yet, it will unbalance the tank possibly causing all or some of your fish to die. Use the test kits on the 10gallon and let us know the results. I would reckon in an 'average' tank it will be 2-4 weeks before you can add the neons, however if you brought over some water/gravel/filter from the old tank then it could be as little as 1-2 weeks.

Hope to help!

My 10 gallon tank has been set up over a year, so i think it is very mature by now :D
I had guppies in there before they have all passed on (died) and i had a empty tank sitting there for a few days so i thought i would put the little chap in there so he had more room

well i have a 30 gallon i think it is and i have 2 jack dempsey's and a betta in that tank and they get along ok. i mean i expected there would be a lot of fighting but as long as they get fed on time they get along fine. plus i have a cave for them to hide. bettas will get along with anything almost as long as it aint another betta. yes i feel guppies would be ok as long as he dont get too hungary and eat them. u migh wanna try gouramie or zebra danios something a lil bigger. well i hope i helped. if u get a chance take a look at my posts. well bye bye,
WILL

oopps did i say guppies i meant neons. sorry i read wrong but still they are a lil small. try something a lil bigger so it wont get eaten but wont eat the betta. ok there. lol :)
