Anyone feed their bettas flake food? I tried it and they will not go near it except one male i got but he eats anything. They only mess with the bloodworms and pellets.

Mine hated flake foods initially but with some perseverance (sp?) they now accept them but I only off them a couple of times a week. My male plakat Dijon though refuses them at any cost :grr:

I just kept trying the flake first and then after an hour if it wasn't eaten I'd get it out and then give them the normal pellets or frozen foods. They got the hang of it in the end.

Try some staple crumbles, I fed OSI staple granules and they like it. Also frozen foods are a good choice, but I wouldn't recommend freeze dried bloodworms if you can help it. They cause more problems than they are worth on betta intestines, and often cause constipation.

The only betta food I can feed Hannibal is Tetrabetta, although he will eat the red tetravariety flakes. I haven't tried bloodworms, I can't get frozen 'until I have enough fish to feed them too'.

one of my older bettas eats flakes but my other 2 refuse them -- will only eat frozen brine shrimp & bio pellets. i guess it depends on what you start feeding them with. they'll probably end up eating it if you don't feed them anything else.

My male betta eats brine shrimp pellets, freeze-dried blood worms, sun-dried baby shrimp, flake food, betta pellets, and even peas! He prefers the bloodworms but those are only a small treat. :p

My female betta on the other hand is only eating peas at the moment. She will peck at a flake or two but she dives for the peas I give her.

Thank you for pointing that out to me. I really dont feed them freeze dried blood worms that often but ill stop now!

I have a betta who won't eat anything EXCEPT the tetra betta/tropical or whatever they're called flakes. I have 3 more who eat pellets and flakes (but they're just hogs and eat everything) and 2 who won't anything except pellets. And one of them is picky about the size of the pellet, if it's too big he won't eat it! Wow, some of them can be picky little suckers and the rest of them little piggies.

We use the Hikari Betta Bio Gold ( I also give them a frozen meaty food - brine shrimp, bloodworms or daphnia - once or twice a week). They are tiny pellets that float. Two our our bettas will take them off my finger so there is no waste and no food decomposing on the bottom of the tank.

weird, the betta that i used to have liked frog and crab pellets more than betta pellets
yeah, 2 of my bettas would hog the frog pellets before they could even fall to the bottom for the frogs! to solve that i moved the frogs to a different betta tank :p

Mine loves the red flakes only and spits out the green but he eats peas. he goes crazy on bloodworms and leaps up to grab them before they reach the water. he is the only one I have had that would touch flakes though.
