I have introduced my betta fish to his new tank and he liked to hide at first behind the filter and then hes started to come out alot to but he keeps swimming to the filter... its not a powerful one and he stays wrapped around it and then he swims away...is this normal?

it may not seem powerful but bettas need very weak filter flow as there not the best swimmers, whats size tank and any other fish?

its 19 litres and it says its for tropical fish. he can easily swim away. hes not getting sucked in but swims towards it and then wraps around it and then it swims away after a little while

He might not be getting enough O2 in the water. Is the tank cycled?

Is he resting on the filter? Pretty typical behaviour. If he doesnt have some quite place to rest (on plants or decor) thats the cause. They tend to go thru patrolling around, then lazing on something for a while (in this case the filter) and then go back out for patrol.
So long as he is able to swim around without struggling and the filter current isnt blasting him around the tank, the filter is fine (you could always dampen the outflow tho if it is too strong). Get more resting places for the tank. A few of my guys love to squeeze behind their heaters for rest, even though they have plenty of choices for other places to be lazy.
All the best
Cheers

Thank-you for the advice was really helpful, I went and and bought some plastic plants and he wont stay away from them apart from when he goes to explore the thermometer and heater. I also introduced some black neon tetras which are tiny and they aernt getting sucked in to the filter so I assume that my betta just needed a place to rest and hide.He generally stays at the top of the tank now and the tetras stay at the bottom all together.
thanks,
Elliott

My betta does exactly the same things, likes to hide behind the heater and occasionally rests on the tank bottom which i was told is also normal behaviour.
