Fish Fanatic
So, I'm currently fishless, but hoping to get a betta sometime "soon"(whatever unit of time that means). And I'm trying to get educated on fish care, specifically betta fish care, but I've realized that fish care is definitely more complicated than the bird and mammal care that I'm used to. There is a LOT of stuff to know, and I'm kind of worried that I'll miss something important. I haven't seen any articles that comprehensively cover betta care. Are there any books that are well-reputed and comprensively cover betta fish care?
Quick rundown of the basics of what I've learned;
Anyways, is there any way to make sure I know everything I need to know before I dive in? I'm so scared I'll miss something vital and accidentally kill a fish.
Quick rundown of the basics of what I've learned;
- So far I've ascertained that the most important aspect of fish care is the water. The tank could be completely empty and on the small side, but the fish would survive if the water conditions were correct. I've categorized the water conditions into temperature(should be between 78 and 80 degrees for bettas) and quality. The water quality includes ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph levels, and the hardness/softness of the water.
- Live plants are the best, but fake plants(silk, not hard plastic) are acceptable
- This is obviously slightly contraversial, but I'm going to go with a minimum of 5 gallons for a betta(10 gallons would be better, but a bit pricier too).
- Duh, no males together, and since I'm a beginner, I'll probably just keep a single betta with nothing else in the tank.
- Sponge filters are good for bettas.
