betta finnage

i bought my betta from a lfs almost a year ago. he's a beautiful deep blue and red and is quite happy in his 1 gal bowl. when i first bought him, he had some problems with fin rot but is doing okay now. i noticed something kind of strange and was wondering if anyone else had encountered the same thing. the ends of my betta's fins curl a little bit, almost like a corkscrew. the *ahem* clerk at the pet shop told me it's because of poor breeding. it doesn't seem to hurt him, just looks interesting.

It's proablby due to internal breeding (when the same fish with same gentics mate over and over again abnormalites occur like so).
