I dont do betta duels, i think their wrong but i do know other people who have their opinions, im just interested in wat u all think. ( and i do mean makeing bettas fight not accidents or anything like that )

no worrys, the subject does come up every couple of months though ;)

ya iv noticed a lil but i was interested in wat everyones oppinions were here, i get alota mixed ones out on chat rooms n stuff :/

Sure betta fish are natural fighters IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT! I understand the whole thing in nature... but not in a tiny tank where they cant out swim the attacker.... and sure i know i posted about my fish fighting... but i would NEVER do it intentionally  OH MY GOD!!!

no i know u wouldn't u said b4 in ur other post, i hate people who do that sorta thing 2, it wouldn't b so bad if the fish was given the oppertunity to run and fight again later but wen people force them to fight at it in 10g its awful.

I spar my plakats once a month for 2 minutes. There will be a lot of flaring and posing before the real fight commences. If they don't fight within the alloted time, then I pull them out. If one runs, match is over - on to the next match up. The coppers I have are small, and they usually run. But when they decide to fight, they are really quick!

null vote :p
all i'll say is there is a big difference between a conditioned hybrid plakat that has been bred to fight and say, a store bought non conditioned betta.
i don't fight or spar my plakat because none of them are of fighting stock and none of them have been conditioned.
if i did have fighters like itty, i would definately love to see their natural tendancies in a friendly sparring match. ;)

i agree, you should have an option for people who think its okay as long as the fighters are being very well treated and the "fight" is done properly as a friendly sparring and not a death match.

I believe that it is wrong to do it domestically. While it is their nature to fight in the wild, they can escape. In a little tank however, escaping is not a choice really. I've seen people fight bettas (you know the story) and I honestly think it's cruel to choose the fate of something just because you are higher on the food chain.

i guess i have to agree, a friendly monitored spar is probably healthy for them but a death match is wrong, im sure itty keeps a close eye on his and keeps them safe. id like to bettas spar on video, ill c is i can find a movie clip, i dont think i ever seen one fight b4 -_-

I personally do not like the thought of forcing 2 bettas to fight. Yes, I know they do it naturally, but they were put in a tank together, so the natural thing was altered. However, I don't have bad feelings against those who do fight them, if they are in a country where that is the way things are done. Same for the bull fighting. It has always been done in some countrys. Even fighting roosters. I do disagree with doing these things in a country where it is not part of the heritage of the people there. I live in the U.S., and hear of fighting animals, or fish for sport. I feel it is wrong, because thats not what this country stands for. Our heritage does not have this as a way of life. Although I don't judge those who do these things in a area where it is a natural part of their lives, I am against fighting fish in my country. I was sent a fighter plakat as an extra in a shipment. Now I am stuck with feeding it till it dies, because I will not sell it or give it away as a fighter. :/
