Betta eggs

Has anyone ever had any success with removing the betta eggs after a spawn and hatching them themselves in another tank away from the male?

I only ask because there are about 100 eggs on the tank floor that the male has given up on collecting (i think he got bored of collecting them) and they don't look like they have been attacked by fungus.

you could try to gently suck them up with a turkey baster and GENTLY put them back in the nest. Youre best bet will be,remove dad and then lower the water to about 3 or 4 inches (maybe even less) once the fry hatch they'll swim back up to the nest themselves, but if the water level is too high they'll get exhausted before they reach the nest and they'll just fall back to the bottom

i agree with wuvmybetta, lowering the water level will give them a better chance to get to the surface again. are you sure he has given up on them though? usually the males get a little overworked and leave them on the bottom for awhile, it's kind of rare for them to not pick them up again at some point.
this is a crucial time to be aware of when the fry hatch and start swimming, don't leave the male in too long afterwards, with our latest attempt, the newborns are just now starting to leave the nest and shoot back up. the male is being very protective and we have the tank covered as not to spook him. we don't want to make the same mistake with this fellow that we did last time and leave him in too long, he is kind of paranoid and i don't want him freaking out again and eating the fry. it's not like he is hungry either, we keep him well fed. it's a toss-up now as to when to take him out, i'm thinking leave him in one more night and take him out tomorrow morning. i considered taking him out now but i see that the fry can't yet make it to the surface without his help when they drop to the bottom.
wow jobysp., looks like we are both experiencing this at the same time ;)

That's what happened here a few weeks ago :X I thought I could trust dad for one more day and :X when I came home he'd munched them all

I was bragging too much on what a good job he'd been doing :dunno: I'd never seen such a diligent daddy  but he got tired of it quickly towards the end :X
