I have seen different opinions on here about betta digestion. Most people tend to say that they should be fed once a day, though there really does not seem to be a consensus on how much to feed them. Also, from what I have read, these fish have a fast metabolism and therefore should be fed a little bit of food, multiple times a day.

Anyone here with an accurate answer as to how much to feed a betta and how often?

I feed mine twice a day, dry or live food, usually dry in morning and live in evening especially if I am planning to breed from them (in which case as much live food as possible).

I think the accurate answer is that it doesn't really matter enough to be worth worrying about
My bettas thrive on once daily feedings, others do just as well being fed more or less often... I'd say whatever fits into your schedule is fine. My juvies get stuffed with food to the bursting point while the adults get 5 pellets a day and they all do perfectly fine, I have yet to have a juvie from this spawn develop swimbladder or any other such illness.

It seems my males are ok, then, though my females glut on flakes in the main tank, resembling the out of control betta on that site. :X

I see "Valefor", Synirr... yay for FF. ^_^

*Edit* OOh, and Leviathan, which is not necessarily just FF, though. :/

I guess personal preference it is then. *shrugs*

Hint: All my male bettas are named after angelic and demonic figures from various religions ;)
Valefor appears in the Goetia. I don't think any of the FF aeons have original names, so if you're a fan, you might find it interesting to Google what they are based on
For example, Bahamut is actually an enormous fish (how fitting for this forum, lol) from Arabic mythology who carries on his back a huge bull named Kujuta who has four thousand eyes, ears, noses, mouths, and feet. Kujuta supports a ruby mountain, atop which stands an angel who supports the seven earths.

Argh! Reading that link messed up my mental image of Valefor. Instead of a very colorful bird, I now think of a "lion with an ass's head". :X

But, I believe you are right. I noticed Shiva and Ifrit right away, but I suppose I should have suggested non-FF-ness from only two summons being present. :p

Astaroth... the description reminds me of Apocalypse from the X-men. He even has four demons following him, like Apocalypse's four horsemen. :p

Astaroth is a female goddess of fertility--many breasted type. A Canaanite goddess much in conflict with the Hebrew God.

or here

Astaroth is mentioned frequently in the Bible, both Old and New Testament. She was worshipped as a Fertility Goddess and mixed with Athena's worship in the Roman rule. Her worship is historical and in the history books. She had temples.

She is mentioned in Judges 2:13.

Tempesuousfury: I apologize. Wicca has as much right to the name Astaroth as the Canaanites did. Now I know why the CT boy is called Astaroth rather than the CT lady. You answered my question. Thanks. :)

Although reading through the reference I gave seems to indicate that the Princess/Queen of Heaven is the Duke of Hell also.

It's ok, the sex thing did not even occur to me. I just gave up so I could let Synirr give us the answer. Seems I inadvertantly came up with it. :p

You say this mythical figure is perhaps both male in one myth and female in another? Are these two religions or whatever remotely related (too lazy to check to see... you see. :p)

Also, so as not to start a new thread, how does one differentiate between a gravid female and an overfed one? Other than starving the fish for a day or two, since I can't in the community.

I was in a thread awhile back that had pictures of overfed Betta. I'll take a turn at finding it later and post it to you.

I have really only heard of Astaroth as a fem. since she is a fertility Goddess and lumped with Athena and other fertility goddesses. The link I posted also seemed to be linked to wicca or more accurately demonology and Satan worship, as I understand that wicca is a nature religion. I am not at all conversant with the ins and outs of demonology. I am familiar with relgions through the philosphy of religion, the study of world religions, and Christianity. Nevertheless I love a great spooky movie :p and watch the Medium and Supernatural series. haha

I was aware of Astaroth as a femme, but seeing as the name is used as male in the Goetia I figured I was justified in using it for a male fish... besides, I like the name and didn't have an unnamed female at the time :p
