Hey All

I just moved my 29 gallon tanks fish into my 55 and am now planning on making one big betta tank. but he'll have to share. I plan on getting either this brilliantly red coloured crown tail or just as brilliant yellow veil tail from my lfs, what i want to ask is if i put a solid school of 10 or so neons, and maybe a breeding trio of swordtails in with him would they all be happy campers? Im sure there is no difference on wich betta I get correct? I've got an aqua clear 20 on it and a large sponge filter sitting in there so the water should have much of a current so they betta should be able to swim freely. thanks for all the help!

also thinking of getting ghost shrimp just i dont know how much the lfs will ding me if i do, if theyre cheap i want to get some, ive read of rare occaisons where the shrimp will jump and attack bettas but mostly i see that the bettas will eat any shrimp small enough, so ill be sure to get big ones

Did you want to house two Betta fish in the 29 gallon? Are you going to divide it? If you aren't going to divide the tank then you cant have two male Bettas in the same tank.

I went and bought 10 neons and the red crowntail and so far i dont think the betta even knows he isn't alone, he followed one of the cories around for a bit but i think it was just more interest. everyone seems to be happy!

Keep an eye for aggression from the betta. IME Crowntails tend to be more aggressive than Veiltails and Halfmoons. I am not saying that you WILL have issues, just keep an eye open for the first few weeks. Good luck and I hope it works out great :)

Neons could get nippy towards the betta.

Absolutely correct. Neons are fin nippers and them big fins of the bettas will look like candy to the neons. Same think with White clouds. White Clouds and Bettas are both top feeders so they both compete for the top territories.

I dont know where WCMM came into this, i dont have any =) so far the neons are fine and i've read that neons and bettas can be friends, the betta has claimed one of my water wysteria as his territory and the only time i see any aggression is if a neon tries to swim through it's little branches, so so far so good! the plant is in the corner so the neons pretty much have the rest of the tank
