I was out shopping at Target yesterday (which doesn't sell fish, go them!!) and I found those "betta-safe" neon caves I've heard everyone raving about. I'm so psyched! I checked them over for any rough or sharp spots, and as I'm doing my water changes today, I'm adding them in. How exciting! Pulpul, who is sick right now (see the post about the possible hematoma and self mutilator), is nestled into his right now and looks very content; his color is even looking better. I think I need to go out and get one more for my new "patient" the self-mutilator, as maybe it'll help him feel more safe and thus, less stressed. ::squeals with delight::

Thats great that you found one are target doesent have them only are walmart which sucks because then im so temted to go look at the bettas and normally caint help my self :D my betta loves his cave i noticed he only made bubble nest with it in there if i switched other things in he wasent as happy so i ended up stiking with the caves.

I'm looking for a cave for my males to chill out in, whats the brand name of these betta-safe caves???

Alas, my digital camera is a peice of crap. Here's the only pic that came out looking mildly like a fish and cave. ::points to attached picture::

And, sorry; I don't know the brand name. They're made of some kind of ceramic-type stuff and are rainbow colored, if that helps at all.

edit: oh yea, its not glittery, thats just air bubbles on it.

as MUCH as I hate to say this, they have those at WalMart.

I never gave them a second thought because I had one in Amos' tank at one time, and after I started to learn more about how they are and that their fins and such can get caught on things, I pulled it out. I have no idea why. lol I

Why the hell do they make them in flourescent colors? Man, that will totally ruin the look of my natural tanks. I'm glad to see that they really like them, though. I might try it in one of my tanks. Not sure who, yet, though....

I agree on the flourescent thing. If there was some way to paint them without poisoning the water, I'd do it, because they're SO ugly. However, my tanks are for my fish, not for my viewing pleasure, and if they like 'em, they can ugly up my apartment all they want

I know what you mean about fins getting caught. I had a regular cave for my betta Tim once, and he LOVED it, but it had a few rough spots and he was getting shredded on it. I checked these caves for roughness and they are all smooth and very fine textured. So far, everyone's been safe.

It was the funniest thing though. A bubble got caught in the peak of Tim's cave, and I saw him sitting in the save staring at it. He suddenly darted up and attacked the nice shiny bubble, and it came erupting out the sides. Poor guy was terrifed! He shot out of the cave and hid under his plants for a half hour.
He's fine now, and resting in the cave. I guess he's made a truce with it so long as it doesn't have a bubble.

You'd think that the bettas would dislike the color since they're such a color-involved species. I mean, Shyboy's fins are almost that shade of pink. I'm surprised no one attacked the caves to be quite honest.

I was lucky to find a more natural looking similar 'cave rock' at my PetCo. I got it for Orion's tank, but I think I'm going to go back and get one for Draco. Draco has a miniature flower pot right now for his "cave" but I bet he'd like being able to swim in the different holes more, I know Orion just loves his. It passed the pantyhose test, nothing to tear the fins on :D

Here is Orion's: (LOL his little face is along the edge, looks like I caught him in a yawn)

Here he is sitting in it. He loves to rest inside :). Pic quality is kind of poor on this one:

The second pic is one where he noticed you were there and came swimming out, huh? :)

I really, I mean really dig those green ones.

RW -You're exactly right about them liking them and who really cares about the color. I might put it in somebody's tank at home tonight.
Hmm.... MAYBE even in Lucky's tank. See if he flips out. If anyone will, he will. lol

I laughed out loud when I read Tiny Tim's story.
that's hilarious - the poor little guy

i have one of those green caves in my community tank & all my fish, esp. the plec, love it! i too got it at petco. i think it was like $7 or so so not too expensive.

Exactly! LOL. He usually rests all the way inside, then when he seems me peeking for him he comes out, looking back at me. :D It's got a sort of flat hole on the bottom. It's so hilarious because sometimes he will swim through that, but he has to turn himself kind of sideways to fit through it. There are about 5-6 holes total in it, front and back and sides, but he actually seems to think it's fun going through that flattened hole at the bottom :p

It looks greyish/green, depending on the light. I think they had the neon ones there too, but since I had a choice I grabbed the greenish/gray one. :)

$7 bucks? Eeee, thats Petco for you. These neon caves are huge with 6 holes and they cost $1.29 each. Oh well, I guess if the betta likes it its worth the money. I think I'd pay a bit more to have caves that aren't this.. ugly. lol.

I'm thinking of picking one up later for my little self-mutilator. He'd probably appreciate something to hide in.

Is that plant on top of the cave or behind it? And if its on top is that a real plant?
