Betta Buddies

I'd like to move my betta from his 1 gallon bowl into a proper tank with a filter and heater. From reading the threads about betta tank mates it seems corys will work? Is that right or is there somthing better?

Cories would be fine. I've kept male and female Bettas with them and had no problems.

I have a betta with three cories in a 5gal and they all get along quite well.
