Im getting my mutt bettas ready to mate, i have some full HM pairs coming from Bangkok soon, and i wanted to try out my methods with my mutts first :)

I have them side by side atm, the female is in a dual betta hex has gone very colourfull, and is starting to show signs of vertical stripes. However, she does not look physically swollen yet.

The male (in a 5 gallon - soon to be the spawning tank) is hanging about near the females hex, and started to make a bubble nest in that corner :)

What sort of size brood will i get, and how many will make it through to adulthood?

People in the forum have reported anywhere from 200-400 eggs. The survival rate would depend on what they're raised in (tank size), food, etc. My pair bred in a tank with a bubble wall and aquaclear filter(I thought the surface current would prevent them building a bubble nest). I had 6 survive, but if I known earlier about having a sponge filter, only a few inches of water, no substrate etc it would probably have been far greater than this. There are plenty of expert people here that can help you. I wish I'd known first! :D

IMO, i would wait for the purebreds to come before breeding, trust me. the biggest spawn i have had is 100+. do you really want to have that many "mutts"? ;)
