Hi all,my male betta dies today and it made me realise how much i love um!
Im now thinking of breeding them in the celar. They only problem is the heat.I dont mind water changes regulary but its the heat im worried about.I live in england you see and as you know the weather is s**t.I would put the males in jars or these little plastic reptile tank things until sold.I will breed in a little 4g tank and them move them into a 15g tank after(if i do)

my questions are:

1)at is the lowest temperature they males could be kept in?
2)Could i feed the babies on liquifry?
3)how many males should i exspect?
4)If i put males in jars should i do daily water changes or every 2 days?

thanks and sorry for all these questions.

yes im still here lol.Can anybody give me there views on any of them questions?please!thanks lol.

You need to use a heater with any betta they prefer quite hot and humid mine are at about 80 F or 26 1/2 C

Breeding takes a lot of time effort and money, and what are you going to do with the fry? You could end up with over 100 fry.

Ok, In reality breeding bettas is not that hard,A little time consuming yes but when put against other species (neons) they are easy.As long as you are prepared.

1. Prespawn you should really get a good supply of fry food, be it brine shrimp, vinager eels, micro worms etc etc. Also a good variety of juvie food. Yes you can use liqua fry, but it does have some draw backs, rotting in the tank is a big one. have these established before you even try the spawn.(brine shrimp can be hatched in 24 hrs)
2. A great, not good, great conditioning period for the adults in my humble opinion at least two weeks, live foods yatta yatta.
3. Um if you cant heat the spawn tank there will be no spawn since I have been told by a few old Betta people that water temp is a direct contributer to a spawn, I dont know first hand because I ve never tried a spawn under 78ferenhiet.

Ya know Ive heard so many people try and predicate how many males you will get from a spawn stating water temp , ph, etc but I have never been able to prove a theory on it. In general it will be 60%-40% male or female though warmer water seems to throw more boys than girls (no proof though)

I shouldn't really speak, as I've never bred bettas, but I think if I were you, I would make sure you have an outlet for your fry before you breed. It can be hard enough sometimes to get lfs to take your surplus guppies and they can all be shoved into the same tank and sold 10 at a time to a customer. For male bettas, they will need to keep them separate and almost certainly only sell one at a time- check how many fish they'd be able to take off you at one time. Alternatively, you could try breeding some nice sought-after tail form that you could sell online.

To breed Betta its not like other fish.

Basically you need to have a tank with the male in it, and a seperate section with the female(s), once the female is in condition she will get vertical bands on her. The male also needs to be kept in peak condition, he will make bubble nests when ready.

Attisons betta pellets, Almond leaf and other such products are excellent for Bettas.

You have to be really carefull as a female Betta will shred a weak fancy male in minutes if you put them together and she isnt ready. Truely you are better trying to breed a PK male and a female at least he will stand a chance if she decides she isnt ready or willing.

Once both fish are in peak condition let the female into the male's territory and watch them, she will generally have a nosey at the bubble nest and if she is ready will allow the male to sort of wrap himself around her and squeeze out the eggs. They will be put in the bubble nest where the male will look after them. Remove the female back to her section of the tank.

1)at is the lowest temperature they males could be kept in?
- 76F is lowest really, Best fior breeding is 80F

2)Could i feed the babies on liquifry?
- Of course I find it a VERY good food for Betta fry, Many ppl with disagree but I have alot of good experience with this food

3)how many males should i exspect?
- Ya can never tell, Most of them will be female but meh

4)If i put males in jars should i do daily water changes or every 2 days?
- Full clean out every 2 days and Min water level is 1G

thanks guys! is this sound a good idea or not?

i have a damaged 4ft tank adn its empty,Should i fix it and then fill it with 6-8 inch of water and put jars/bottles/containers in it for the males.I think i could get between 15-30 jars or what ever i used in there. Is this enough jars? or should i get more? Its a bonus using a tank because i can heat it and filter it.thanks a bunch!

not for breeding.I going to breedd them in a 14 inch tank. What i ment was when the males get older enough to be seperated i could put them in jars and put the jars in the tank.So i can heat the water round the jars so it will heat the jars.I could also put holes in the jars and ut a fiterin the tank to give them oxygen.Does this sound like a good idea?

Id say you should give breeding a miss, jars heated by the water round it...14inch tanks.....your not prepared at all.

I said im going to breed them in the 14inch,i didnt say there staying in there. At christmas i will be getting 2 4frt tank so that means my 2 2fts will be empty.I will also have the oter 4ftthat needs t be repaired.I also have a 1ft tank for conditioning the mle/female.thanks.

....I really doubt the fry will take in LiquiFry. They really usually only notice live foods. I really think you need to be more prepared before you breed. Just because you know some of the answers to some questions you don't necessarily know everything you need to know or have all the supplies. A lot of people just think that because they have like 3 spare tanks and 2 extra jars they can go ahead and spawn their bettas and have something terribly wrong happen.

i agree it toook me 1 year of research before I could have a successful spawn which just happened 2 weeks ago.... :/
