How can I tell if they've finished spawning? I know I probably should have looked this up, but I had expected to watch them while they were spawning to make sure neither one got seriously hurt. But after having left the room on several occasions for WC breaks and for water and other things, I worry I might have missed it. How can I know if they've finished spawning? How would the eggs look like in the nest?

Spawning generally last for hours so it's not likely that you missed it. You should be able to see the eggs in the nest if they are there :)

short answer: the female will be hiding in a corner away from the male.

That's what I was looking for, but I couldn't see the eggs in the bubblenest so I assumed that nothing had happened yet.

sometimes the eggs are hard to see, one way to tell is if the nest looks like it has "spit" in it ;)
