 ok i just been reading about this other query on multiple bettas and now i'm a little confused, how the hell are you meant to breed them?! when do you know when they are "ready" and my 2 females which are fairly young co-exist in an 84l tank with some tetra etc will they start attacking at a certain age? any help would be appriciated!

hi there is a pinned article on how to breed bettas in the betta forum; that should give you all the info you need.

:hi: to the forums

i was unfortunate enough to be told by my lfs that they'll go in with anything except other males and one perished since then i've not risked another till i know the males inside out, i think i will separate the two females just as a precaution.

I only found that the females will turn on one another when seperated by themselves for a period of time, then re-introduced into a community of females. Also if you condition them for breeding and show them a male, meaning feeding them alot of high protein foods and placing her in view of a male.

LOL if you know this ignore it but they have the possibility to make 500+ babies which (the males, anyway) will need individual homes when they are old enough.

ok so my two females bought at the same time from the same display tank will not have a barney at each other then?

Each betta is different and has different moods/emotions when it comes to company. You can test it out, but I would put atleast 3-4 and no less toghether that way if they are aggresive, it can be divided amongst them instead of just on one. Some may do great, others will just kill and terrorize, so watch out. You could put them in a divided tank without a problem though. If you use 2 males, just watch them for any added stress they might show. Some mind it, but I think most do fine next to one another.
