Our betta has recently started blowing bubbles which don't pop, they just sit on top of the water, I know betta's make bubble nests when breeding but the only thing is we don't have a female betta

would he still do this anyway or is there some other reason he would do this?

bettas blowing bubblenests is a general sign of healthiness :D it doesnt' matter whether or not there are females around, and it deosn't mean that you have to breed him either :D just be happy becuase he's a healhty/happy litlte fella at the moment :D

So if the bettas do not blow bubble nests it means that they are sad or depressed? Mine swims normal but he never blows bubble nests.. Temp Ranges in the room from 70 - 73 or 74.

nope, if your betta doesnt blow nests doesnt mean he is sick either. He may be bored and blowing a nest. or he may be hoping a female comes swimming by...you never know why they do the things they do LOL
