Cool link i found showing how farmers make rice paddys;

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/satoyama/hillside.html

Wouldn't it be cool if you could make one in miniture :D ? It wouldn't be hard to re-create one scaled down loads, like a 3ft tank- 3ft long, 1ft high and and 1ft long at the ends with the 3 rice paddy sections running down along the tank from each end with a pond pump to pump the water through the tank from top to bottom and back up to the top again :D
An interesting project to do for anyone who's seriously into bettas or wants to create a betta biotope tank- a betta biotope tank could also be realy good for anyone who'd trying to breed rare wild bettas :) ?

Wow, that's really cool! It would be amazing if somebody did manage to make a minature rice paddy in an aquarium... I bet their bettas would wind up showing it off on 'Fish Cribs.' I can see it all now... "Yo, this is my paddy. Uh.... and this right here is where I relax... Note the neon lit IAL, pretty bling, eh?"
*snorts* Ok, I'm crazy. On a side note, did y'all know that the Thai rice paddies are on the list of World Heritage Sites? They're in danger of disappearing because the terraces aren't efficient with machinery and farmers have abandoned them due to loss of profits. >_< Well, at least now they're sorta protected... the problem is that nobody knows what to do with them! They aren't sure if they should just let the paddy terraces naturally crumble or if they should try to find people to help keep them up... Sorry for the sidenote. I'm a Preservationist and follow things like this~
If anyone is interested about World Heritage Sites, take a look at the UNESCO website <3

Sad thing is, so can I :lol: They're such snobby, vain little things (andforthatwelovethemallthemore). You should have seen how my VT was when I first transferred him from cup to tank :lol: He swam around for about an hour wiggling his tail happily as if saying "Duuuuuuuuuude check out my sexy new pad! 50 cubic centimeters of prisitine water and it's ALL MINE, BABY!"
Ahem, once again, I'm crazy. But yes, someone should try out the paddy-tank idea, if only to get their fish on 'Fish Cribs'.

I know what you mean :D when i had my old VT betta he lived in a 10gal tank with some corys for a long time and he was so like "check out my gorgeous butt corys, my butt whips your insignificant albino cory ass's B) !", when i got 2 platys to go with him he was like "talk to the fin cos the face ain't listening!" :lol
Bettas... :rolleyes:

:lol: :lol: :lol: !!!!! Gyaaaaaaah, I can so imagine the betta being the pimp of the tank! "Bow to your beautiful master, primitive slaves! I'm bigger, prettier, and smarter than you! *crackswhip!*"
Yes, gotta love them bettas :p Adorable little haughty buggers <3

:lol: I remember suggesting this to some of the betta keepers that used to use the chat room a year or so ago, i dont know if any of them actually did it in the end. If i remember rightly OPCN was quite interested in the idea, but ive not seen him about for a long time.

Cool, i got another thread in chit chat asking about mud and clay in aquariums as if its ok to use it im definatly going to try grow my own rice paddy at some point in the near future :thumbs:

You can buy aquatic compost for pond plants at most garden centers with a good pond section. Clay based substrates are quite popular with planted tank enthusiasts (i think) so prehaps ask in that section.

I thought of making a rice paddy tank for a trio of imbellis once... it would be really awesome, but then I discovered how hard it is to find rice seed....
