I needed to move my 5 gallon tank that is home to 1 betta(Sam) and a catfish(Tom). So I put the divider in my 10 gallon tank which held only one betta (Benny). I moved Sam and Tom into the big tank. Somehow Sam got in with Benny and attacked his fins. Of course I moved Sam into a bowl for the rest of the move.

I feel horrible. :(

But what should I do for Benny if anything? I searched the site and Melafix came up as a suggestion for his fins. But FishDoc talked about finrot as a disease that can be started by an attack. Benny was fine this morning and frayed this afternoon so I know it is not the water, it has to be Sam.

or stress. did you find sam on benny's side? or it may have been coming and just now surfaced. wathch him for a few days. if the fins start deteriorating, then medicate, i not just let them grow back. as far as medication for bettas goes. I alwatys start with Bettamax and if that does not work I will try stronger meds

No Sam somehow got in with Benny. Squeezed between the glass top and divider. It was a definite attack. Poor Benny was beautiful this morning.

If he is acting, swimming, eating alright, the fins will heal on their own. I would just watch for abnormal behavior and teach him some kungfu :ninja:

Benny continues to act normal despite missing part of his fin. Sam was angry to be in a time out bowl.

Being a teacher on summer vacation and having just had foot surgery, I'll begin the kungfu lessons immediately. Should be more enjoyable than daytime TV. :D
