Our fighter is just lying there, if I try to move it, it loops the loop in the water and goes back down, theres no sign of injury on it,whats up with it?? :(

Hi cat, sorry to hear of this
It could be constipated or have swimbladder problems
Try feeding him a pea.
I'm sure more experianced betta keepers will have some other ideas.

Is it having difficulty swimming? Sounds like it could be swim bladder? Which Tank is he in? Can you test the water, any other details you can tell us? :)

EDIT: From the sounds of it Peas may not be able to help him now but here are some treatments for swimbladder from a previous post....

1. Feed your fish a couple of peas. Just get some frozen peas, thaw them, and feed them to your fish. Peas somehow encourage destruction of the impaction. No hard scientific evidence, but it's worth a try. Bloodworms have also worked for me.

2. Fast your fish for a couple of days. Withhold all food for three or four days, and sometimes this alone will break up the impaction and return things to normal. Most fish can go a week to ten days without food and be just fine.

3. Periodic aspiration of the swim bladder works very well. Basically, you stick a needle in the swim bladder and suck out some of the air. Not something to be entered into lightly, but does work well. This is not a cure, but a successful treatment.

Some of these treatments seem a bit extreme but it is worth giving a couple of them a try.

Right gave it peas but I think its going be to late :(

WHat will have caused it?

Swim Bladder can be caused by a few things; damage or bruising to the Swim bladder itself, secondary bacterial infection or poor water conditions. Most likely the first one though.

I did a water change the other day could that have caused it?

Unlikely to be that unless it hit itself on something when you poured in water or something and the current from it swept it into something, only thing I can think of.

I hope it wasn't me that hurt it :(

Maybe i should starve them all for a few days.

I wouldn't worry to much, its very very rare that more than one fish will die of Swim Bladder at the same time.

I honestly don't think it's his swimbladder. If it was he would be floating at the top.Plus bettas can take mucho rough treatment without ill effects. I drop at least one a day and they're not complainng,so I don't think anything you've done could have caused it.
It could however be what you haven't done....what size tank is he in? How often is the water changed? Is it cycled or 100% changes? What does he eat?
The answers to all of those could help somebody figure out what is wrong.

Fancy seeing Ryan in b&g....what oh what could have brought him in here

He was in a 4ft tank, his water had a 20% change in the week and he gets bloodworm, flakes and i put brine in.

He was ok yesterday theres no injury on him.

What else is in that tank? Bettas can get stressed in a tank that big. They are so territorial, that sometimes large size can be stressful. -_-

I've moved it to a smaller tank ,its still alive if i give it a nudge it tries to swim then goes back lying on its side, not sure what do with it.
