fantasy fish is Dad on this topic. I have a beautiful red beta that just recently has exhibited fin shredding. No other betas I have owned have done this. He is in a small tank all by himself with very little that would damage his fins. What is the reason for the fin shredding?

My blue male did this to himself recently just after I took him away from his fry. I think it's depression. The problem seemed to go away very quickly when I put a male next to him on one side to flare at and a female on the other side to flirt with.

Could be boredum too, again having another betta or a mirror to flare at for a little while each day should cheer him up a bit.

Could be, I'd make sure to give him lots of extra care and more frequent water changes until he stops and the fins heal.

I also treated my male with melafix to stop his fins from getting infected and to help them heal, you should be able to get hold of some or at least something similar, it's very useful stuff.
