Best way to add cats to fishtank?

Hum. When i added a cat to my aquarium he scratched me from head to toe.

I'm going to guess you meant catfish; a cup works well as they can't stick their barbs into the plastic; well they can but it won't catch like a net.

You could put them in a slide ziplock bag with original water (after temp acclimation), open ziplock 1 cm or so (depending on cat size), pour out 99% of the water. Open ziplock and plop cat in tank. Note: I have not tried this, just an idea.

either pour out most of the water and then pour the fish into the tank or use a fine mesh fish net.

I use a plastic cup with holes in the bottom; pour them into the cup - water goes into pail below cup - then dump cup into tank - i started doing this after a group of 10 otto - 3 caught on the fine netting. Never had a problem with net and cory or pleco but maybe it is a problem waiting to happen. Now the clown loaches; i'm dreading having to move them. Mine have gotten around 5 inches already and i hear they can put a nice spike through your hand when you try to catch them. Maybe i will have to wear body armor.

Fine mesh nets are less likely to get tangled because the pectoral fin rays don't go into the netting as far.

Pictus are the worse then clown loaches, then other types of catfish.

Sometimes you can leave the net and fish in the tank and when they relax they can get out of the net. other times you have to cut the net off them.

I agree with the above as most cats don't like water!!!

(okay I'd just use a finer net for 'plop and drop' as you don't want shop or shipping water in your tank.)
