what is best to feed my plec ??

i got him off a fish rescue centre a few days ago and was told he eats algea wafers, courgettes, Brussels

ive caught him eating algae wafers, and the odd bloodworm pellet,

what else do you all feed your plecs,

ive trolled the net and ive read that in natural habitat that they eat fruit but it never said what fruit,

ive tried a couple apple slices to see if it would take his fancy and ive put a brussel sprout by the front entrance to his cave

but hes not payed much interest in them but im not sure if its because the kids have been running wild and the noise has put him off for the time being,

well the answer really depends on the breed/type of pleco,

but generally speaking my plecos normally eat leftover food from the bottom of the tank, i will only put food in specifically for the pleco about once a week, and that would be a couple of wafers, or a piece of zuchini, cucumber, lettuce, or even meat(depending on the breed)

I wouldn't leave a pleco on left overs, simply because there's rarely enough in my tanks. It's no good letting them eat protein rich food that the other fish get but that depends on the breed. Some of them are shy and the smallest hungry fish will bully them. I always target feed them. I drop lots of algae wafers along with the regular food for other fish as all need vegetarian stuff in their diet, at least mine.... The plecos will find the algae tablets amongst them fairly easy. My common pleco is getting veg and fruit twice a week at least on top of other food. He is a big fish and needs a bit more and if you reseach around on the net most plecos are underfed and not developed properly. Favourite stuff is cucumber, melon, romain lettuce and mango all raw but he'll eat blanched zucchini, peas and broccoli. He won't touch apples or any similar fruit. But I guess you need to try and see how it goes as it depends on the fish. I first started trying zucchini when he was small a year ago and he wouldn't touch it. I tried at least 7-8 times until I tried romaine lettuce and cucumber. He was at them in seconds. Then he started eating zucchini and broccoli but this was a year after my first attempts so with certain stuff it may take longer.

my plec in question is a 10inch gibbiceps sailfin pleco, so hes a fair sized boy ( yet to be confirmed)

i know he loves cucumber as he practically skinned the piece i put in there for him,

i have to drop more algae wafers in as my other fish have tendencies to eat them aswell

ive looked around and the best info ive seen is they like veg and fruit ( becuase that helps) but not a specific fruit or veg

You could try New Era Plec Pellets, they are a bit like plastacine (sp?), so you can combine several pellets to make a chunk suitable for your gibbiceps. I'm about to order the Catfish version for the first time, mainly for the benefit of my ~25cm TL Synodontis notata.
