Best Substrate

Hi folks, 
 
I've got a new tank to set up for my new house and I'm going to have it planted. 
 
I've been reading up about the best substrate to use.
 
I'm only going to be running with low light plants, really for ease as it is the first proper effort of planting. (done it before with smaller tank but only 1 or 2 plants).
 
I'm thinking of a sand base however for the plants to root, would I be able to go with sand alone or should I be looking at aquatic soil as well.
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would use a sand base and a fine(ish) gravel. I have never done and a planted tank but that would be my best guess

You can use just sand if that is what you want
