Just bought a new tank - Aqua one Cube 25 (25x25x25c - 16L) This will be just for my long awaited betta & maybe a few shrimp.

Just wanted opinion on the best substrate type (if there is one)? Is there anything Bettas do/dont like in particular.

Thanks
Ben

- OOPs! Wrong section, sorry can a moderator please move this to general Betta discussion? Thanks :)

I use sand, as it is the softest, and it looks the best in my opinion. I guess you could use whatever suits your fancy though. I used gravel once, just doesn't look as nice.

I have used sand, this shows the colours up, have just changed to a small gravel, looks lovely too :) Larger gravel tends to make the tank look small IMO. :good:

Just FYI, I've heard experiences where sand might have been the cause of constipation, especially if it's flying everywhere, since it can get in a betta's mouth. Not sure though, just thought you'd like to know to be aware :good:

honestly its up to personal opinion i think. betta's don't need sand, gravel ect for they are mid level swimmers. so what you put on the bottom of the tank is up to you.

I heard they like to push around marbles

Mine's in a bare bottom tank. He seems fine with it, so easy to clean too like 15-20 mins :D
