Can anyone recommend a heater for a 200l tank? Current one is proving very inaccurate, I want something I can set to a temperature and trust it will moderate at that temp?

I'm assuming I need about 200W

I have 2 300w heaters in mine, (260L). That was due to the winter though. We deliberately keep the house at an avarage of 18 so in the cold weather with the house empty and the heating dropping to 6 it needed the extra.

As to accuracy they are all cack, use it with a thermometer and adjust until it switches at the temp you need ignore the numbers on the top its a guide at best.

One last thing, if you intend on keeping plecs or any other heater loving fish then the heaters that are used for terrapin tanks are much better as they have a plastic guard ready fitted.(helps if you drop it too)

To be honest you couldt be more wrong with that blanket statement. I have a sun sun heater a JBL and a no name brand and there all rubbish for accuracy. My hydor in-line heater and fluval e300 are spot on even to 0.5 c you get what you pay for

So, can i ask? would you fit that heater without a thermometer on the tank? Without first hand experience of the item?

Personally I wouldn't use any heater in a tank without a thermometer being in there as well.
This is on the offchance that should the heater thermostat malfunction and remain on, I might be in time to do something before I ended up with a tank of boiled fish.

I have never seen a heater, by a name brand company, that would not hold within about 1F, 0.5C. One thing that they all share is that the temperature scale on the heater may be a good starting point but it is hardly to be relied on. The thermometer is needed to make final adjustments. I suppose you are free to believe that cheaper heaters are trash but it does not match my own experiences. Even this antique holds temperature well but it has no temperature scale on it at all. You set it by watching the pilot light as you turn the knob on the top. Then adjust from that point using the thermometer to decide which way to turn the adjustment.

Mine are nothing special but hold the temp perfectly. I'm refering to the numbers on the top, a guide at best.
