I am getting a Blue and white marble crowntail betta, and I wanted to know what kind of filter would be best for a 10 gallon?

P.S. Same thing with my kenyi, I am getting him a 55 gallon tank and I just wanted to know what type of filter would be best? :dunno:

I don't know much about kenyis but I'd get a good, heavy duty filter for a 55g just in case you add more fish.

For the betta, it's a little more complicated... you want a filter that will do a good job but not be dangerous. Many bettas get their fins sucked into the intake of filters, even it they are gentle enough for other fish. This can kill the betta or really screw up his fins.

So I'd recommend one large-ish sponge filter or two smaller ones for a 10g. :)

They're quite cheap... under $10 where I live, usually less. :)

EDIT: But you need an air pump to power one.

Yep. :) Just make sure there's no places for him to be sucked into or tear fins.

He sounds lovely, make sure you post pics when you get him!

Putting a block of filter foam (or a sponge filter) over the intake will solve the fin tearing worries for your betta. But you have to turn your filter current up a little, since the foam will slow it down some. You can also use panty hose to slip over the intake tube as well, but I prefer the foam...just easier to deal with imo.

There are alot of good filters on sale here www.thatpetplace.com

I just bought a 20 gal Whisper for like $15, they are over $20 at my Walmart.
At That Pet Place I paid right at $9 for shipping....but I also got 5 lbs of gravel, the filter, a heater, and 12 weighted plants too though (the entire order with shipping incuded was $52) :D. Not too shabby imo.

alright thanks guys, but I'm not getting him any time soon. Still got a lot of research to do first.

You're welcome, and it's great to hear that you're doing your research before betting the fish. :) Good luck with him!

thanks alot, I really look up to you guys and girls as my role models. When I first started off keeping bettas I used to think that they were happy in their little tiny bowls. After stumbling onto a forum, I saw some you guys bettas and I could say one thing.................Holy crap. :hyper: I wanted to do a tank just like you guys. So that's my story, and I try to help others out, but some people can be stubern!
