Had my plants in a couple of weeks now and have run out of the plant-gro i got free with the nutrafin co2 system, so need to buy some but havent got a clue which one is best, ive heard that many do not have enough iron, is this true?

plant-gro is the one i use and its not that bad but i haven't tried anything else but my lfs recomentds it (good company i should know i worked there once)

I prefure and use Seachems line of plant ferts. I have gotten the best results from it (I have used many different kinds over the years).

Me, too, although I haven't used it in a month and the plants seem to be doing just as well as before :/

i think that the problem that most people overlook with ferts is that their plants arent ready for them... there is a certain amount of nutriants that the plants can get from the fish waste, leftover fishfood, etc although it may be less than i would think...

the fact is, however, that your plants will never use the ferts if they dont have enough of the other nutriants that it needs, ie. carbon, nitrAte, iron, phosphorous and of course LIGHT... if you plants cant use the nutrients, they will be used by algae...and then you will have a problem ;)

anyone else have an opinion on this?

cheers!

I use Tetra FloraPride, however, I use it very rarely, certainly nothing like the dosing levels that they recommend, not really necessary.

Most quality nitrate and phosphate free fertilizers should be okay.

Don't forget, some plants absorb most of their nutrients through the roots, so a pelleted fertiliser should also be considered if you have plants of that type.

love the ;icture of the tank in this post..very pretty..i use FLora Pride too and it does well for my 15gal planted tank

Once again Mr.V I'm in awe of your planted tanks. I absolutly love looking at your tanks. Very well done.

My plants do great with just fish waste and rabbit droppings placed near the roots.

In my experience the most important factor for growth has been the level of light.

Not only the light B) Plants also need micro- and macronutrients to grow. And if you have lot of fishes, not so much plants, there is usually enough CO2 for plants and probably enough to other compounds/ions that plant need. But if your tanks is heavy planted, couple fishes (and low KH), your plants won't grow if they don't get enough CO2. Sometimes missing nutrient is CO2 or maybe NO3-; Some plant-freaks  have to add e.g. KNO3- so that their plants will grow.

Use products by Denerle, they might be difficult to get hold of but they work wonders.
