I'm looking to buy an external for my 20 US gallon. Which one would you guys recommend ?
I'm thinking of the Hagen Fluval 104 (up to 22 Gallons).

Any thoughts ?

Great filter, i have it running right now on my 20 gallons. The water is always very clear and it's a great deal for your money. as well, maintanence is very easy.

I have heard that eheims are better, however they're expensive so if you don't have that much to spend on a filter, get the fluval. :)

i really am having no problems with mine. you just have you make sure to never let the filter run dry. This could really screw it up. (As i'm pretty sure it is with most filters)

Thanks :) I'm actually now running and Eheim on my larger tank, but couldn't find an external eheim small enough for a 20 gallon. And I don't want to massively over filtrate on this tank as I have some female bettas & twig catfish in a planted tank and none of them appreciate a strong current.

That's true. I just checked out their website, and they don't have anything for 20 or 25 gallon tanks.

Hi Bloozoo, I have the fluval 104 external on my 22US gallon and I'd recommend it. Although I got ripped off (paid £60)...should have bought mine from Pets at home..they were only £45.

Thanks ! Well I actually saw some one eBay for £39.95 + £4.95 postage - which I think is a very good deal with all media and pipework included :D

I'd have to travel like an hour to get to my nearest pets at home (via public transport as I don't have a car) so the eBay option is a very tempting one !

So thanks for the heads-up on that make and model :)
