Hi fellow fish friends im coming to the end of my live rock curing and was just wondering what different peoples views are on the different substrates available, also whats most cost effective any views will be gratly appreciated KR Dan

Agree with aragonite. Generally 1lb per gallon, but, as ski said, depends on the foot print. SH

I'd go with arogonite too.

I used crushed coral in a malawi tank (to help buffer ph) and its a nightmare to keep clean - too light to be able to vacuum the cack out without lifting the substrate each time. I've used sand in others and its been much easier to clean.

sorry guys im gonna say a newb thing here when you say footprint are you asking what the shape of the bottom of the tank is???? not heard this expression being used

Yes it is. For example, if you had a tank that was 36" long by 12" wide by 18" tall, the footprint would be 36" by 12", or I guess you could say 432 square inches. :good:

Exactly. My tank is 36x12 and I used about 20lbs of sand, just as an FYI

I used a layer of Crush Coral for the bottom about 40 LBS and about 40 LBS of live sand to top the crush coral. I was getting some algea growth on my sand by my new addition is taken care of that by building himself a temple. (Diamond Back Goby) I bought all my stuff from Ebay. It comes it 20 LBS bags
