Just wanted to share a video of one of my Typhus shrimp fanning her eggs. By the energetic way she is fanning I suspect they are also in the process of hatching since usual fanning is more gentle. But it gives everyone an idea of the fanning process.

Naughty eggs :) She's beating the hell out of them poor things

yeah, and unfortunately the larval young have next to no chance of surviving in a mixed aquarium without green water and possibly salt. But I may be lucky and have the odd one make it.

With my lack of shrimp knowledge Baccus.....the reason she is fanning them. Is it to keep them clean? She looks like she was making a couple of adjustments with one of her claws too.

They fan them to keep them clean and to keep water flowing over them. Most shrimp will do this.

I always thought nature was funny that way, how they can be a freshwater animal, but need brackish when young. Or can survive in either wtaer type.

The fanning serves two purposes, one to aerate the eggs and prevent fungal spores settling on the eggs and being able to grow, and once the eggs are due for hatching the tail waving often becomes more violent as the female helps the offspring disperese in the water.

Just as well not all fish/ shrimp and snails need this brackish water to complete their lifecyle but, it is still interesting and a good chanllenge.
