do u think its a breeding problem? its a bit disterbing seeing the poor things bent and swiming funnie

what is neon tetra disease anyway????
dose it only efect neons..i have blake neons too would hate them to get it too..

why does my week have to be allready ruined

I think it most probable that your Neons are infected with Sporozoan parasites. The most common of these is Pleistophora hyphessobryconis which is commonly called Neon Tetra Disease, (the genuine Neon Disease - there are a number of other things which often get called Neon Disease). Despite the common name, it has been found in several Characins, and even a few Cyprinids, including Zebra Danios.

The parasites form cysts in muscle tissue and as they grow, distort the spine. Loss of colour is another classic symptom. I'm afraid there is not much you can do other then isolate them as the parasites do spread.

This used to be a rare problem, but with intensive breeding in farms with poor hygiene, it is being seen more and more often.

raaah feel so bad now..two little guys did not look good and since the little things are soo little u can see the cysts..i had to kill the little guys its soo sad ..i just hope i dont lose the other 7. they are deffinatly my fave little things

i think pleco ate the other two who have died..will he be ok???

I've only ever heard of sporozoans infesting characins and cyprinids. I would be suprised if the plec picked them up.

Candy,

I sympathize with you. I recently had two neons die, and had no idea why as my tank parameters were close to perfect. A third was looking really bad this morning, so I did some searching on the web, and found a page for neon tetra disease. The third little fella was showing the symptoms, so I assumed that's why the other two passed.

My two remaining neons seem to be alright, but I'll have to keep a close eye on them. I pulled the sick fellow out and have him isolated until the end comes. Not much I can do for him.

I hope your remaining fish will be alright.
