Ok Folks, I have 4 Melanotaenia preacox (Dwarf Neon Rainbows) in a 29 gallon tank. I have 2 males and 2 females ( I used to have 3 females, but my 'matriarch' died a month or so back). I've noticed a strange behavorial difference between the male & females: The males seem to pant. By this I mean they open and close their mouths constantly. The females do this as well, but they only open their mouths slightly. I've only noticed this recently. At first I thought all Neon Rainbow did this, but then I watched further and realized the vast difference in how wide the males were opening their mouths as compared to the females. Has anyone else noticed this behavior with their Dwarf Neon Rainbows?
