I got over the past month 2 bettas and put them into my comunity tank (not together, I mean I got another after the first died) both only lived a few days and they both died of getting an illness.

Anyway i've decided not to put any more in my community tank, so I'm buying a few 1 gallon tanks to put them in. I'm hoping they will live longer and I know how to look after them but one thing i'm worried over is the temp in the rooms. I don't think it goes below 70F but if the temp changed a lot would it hurt them?

They would need to be heated the temp in our house fluctuates so much

This morning is was freezing cold, now it is hot ... thats wales for you

In the range in Newport they do really long tanks (about 30") i was going to buy one and divide it up into 3 different bits and have a betta in each (with plants etc so they cant see each other)

that would be a good idea, the tanks in the range are very cheap as well

Sorry for your loss as well :-( I lost my first betta

Sorry to hear about your bettas. :rip:

You're making a good choice: bettas in community setups are often bullied because of their slow movement and long fins. Bullying results in stress, stress results in illness. Your bettas will probably be happier in individual tanks. :)

You say they died of an illness... make sure you sterilize nets etc. before you get a new betta.

Big or sudden temperature changes often do more damage than having cooler water. Your temperature is okay, as long as you keep the temperature stable you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck with your new bettas.

You could do what I just did - get a 2.5G minibow tank and divide it up, and have 2 bettas in it. They seem to be really happy. They each have a tiny little rock cave to go in and out of, a sprig of cabomba plant and a tiny clump of java moss. They're both doing fantastically! I divided it using both the divider that came with the tank and also added a layer of plastic canvas (craft stuff) between the two. It's awesome.

Then, you can also get a small heater. In all my 2.5 gallon tanks, I have 25Watt heaters and they work like a charm..
