Beginner Questions.........

ummmmm ok i have had a tank for about 9 months now and i just want to know if im doin anything wrong cuz some fish just like to die on me ummm where to start i have 2 painted clearglass fish 1 algie eater 2 mollies and 9 tetras and they are all in a 20 gallon tank. ummmm i have just fake plants and some rocks and a cave for the fish. the filtration system(i forget what its called) suckes stuff through the gravel and through the filters. ummmm i use the waste control once a week and the doses are acording to the bottle. i vaccum the tank about every two weeks and when i add water i always declorify it or whatever also my one molly is pregnant and i need some help with what to do about that.

- what type of algae eater? some of them grow huuuuge so you might need to rehome him

- how often do you do water changes?

- did you know that the way the glass fish were painted was very painful and traumatic?

Edit: also, it might help people work out if anything is wrong by telling them a bit about the fish that died, eg what type of fish, how long you had them, when they died, what ssymptoms they showed before death. HTH.

the fist fish that died were the guppies i got them when i got the clearglass but they all just died....... next i got some angle fish all died except for one he lasted for about 4 months before dieing himself the tetras have been good they all have lived for as long as i have had them ummmmm oh ya when i got the mollies one died but the other didn't i still have her and i just got another molly yesterday which is pregnant.

In addition to the questions already asked I would ask if you have any test kits for the water parameters? If you don't know about the different water parameters that need measuring then read this, it will explain all. I'm not sure if your tank could still be cycling 9 months on, but the water parameters should help people here determine that.

Not that I' an expert or anything because I'm new at this but, when was the las time you added fish and how many was it?? Some of my fsh died a couple of weeks ago beacuse my adding too many fish at once caused a mini cycle and made the ammonia go too high, killing my beloved clown loaches which cost £15! I couldn't work out what it was at the time though, just turned out i got a litle over excited!

the most i have ever added at a time was 4 but it is usually just 2 or 3 when i add new fish

another question ummmmmm i had a black phantom tetra and my white molly was kind of attacking him so i removed him and put him in a different tank but he still died anyway why was my molly attacking it?
