Hello

Just wondered if someone would be able to help me. I have just set up a tank but fear i may have made a mistake already. I purchased some (what i thought was bogwood) and then when i got home i realised it was actually mopani wood and since i have put it in the tank it is half floating. Does anyone have any advice or hany hints? I would be grateful.

Thanks

You can weigh it down with some slate / stones. Try tying them to the wood.

Otherwise it'll just take a long time for it to soak in enough water till it will sink.

Soak it in hot water first. That's what l did with mine & it sank just fine. :)

:hi: Hi Sooty
Mopani is really heavy wood so it should sink once it has soaked.
Mopani does leak tanins into your water so soaking it in hot water is a good idea - unless you like the tanin look (i soaked it for a week & put changed hot water often - this seems to bring tanins out faster)

do the tanins do your fish any harm?
and do they alter the water chemistry?

dont harm the fish whatsoever, i have two large pieces and a smaller piece, my 4 danios and 3 guppys are doing just great. water goes a reddy colour tho, but im hoping it will fade in time.

not sure if it affects the quality of water tho, someone will advise soon.
