im upgrading my 10gl tank all the way up to a 55gl, i know thats a big jump

currently in my 10gl i have a gravel set up and for the 55gl i wanted to switch to sand

(i cant recall) but i read somewhere that instead of going to the pet store and buying 15bags of sand to fill this tank that an individual would just be able to go to a home depot or a lowes (that type of store) and just buy a big bag of sand from there(something to that effect)

is this true? would i be able to just go buy a bigbag of sand from them instead. if so i would much rather do that also i assume it would probably wind up being a lot cheaper. also if i do switch to sand do you have to rinse out sand before you set up your tank like you do with gravel..if so also how would i do that?

Hi. Argos sell big bags of playsand for very very cheap, it would only cost about £12(Here). I reccommend it. Cleaning it is quite simple. Pour some sand into a bucket, blast water in with a hose, and keep doing it until the water runs clear. Then keep repeating that. Sand will need more cleaning than gravel

i do apologize but i have no idea what Argos is lol i googled it and i got some kind of store but it seems to be in the UK? correct me if im wrong im not sure however i do reside in america so if it is a UK store im not sure how that would work out. even though im sure i probably could order it from there if i really had too. but i do thank you for the advice on cleaning the sand that will help me a lot

Sorry, yes argos is a UK store :good:(Would Walmart sell something of similar effect?)

im not sure they might ill have to do some looking around but is there a difference between play sand..and any other kind of sand i guess?

I'm not to sure but i belive playsand has to be non-toxic

that actually makes sense now that i think about it. thank you! :fun:

i got to try to look more places for it though i tried walmart and all they have is colored sand im thinking about going for white sand maybe

Quikrete playsand. 50 lb $3.99 :good: it's a bit too bleach white for my liking though and I prefer the quikrete all purpose sand.

where would i be able to purchase the quikrete playsand? and that was another question i had, whether i could use all purpose sand or not in an aquarium?

Home depot or lowes and from what I've read it's safe :good: it's basically the same thing.

thank you very much this will help a whole lot and btw you think one 50 pound bag should be enough for the 55gl tank? i put it this way i have 10 pounds of gravel in my 10gl and i took into considerationg that 10 pounds of gravel may take up more space than 10 pounds of sand and aloso that 10 pounds of gravel is a little much much for my 10gl tank but i figured i would probably need about 50 pounds of sand for the 55gl anyway

alright thanks again for all your help and advice! B-) :good:
