But here's some updated Alex the Axolotl pictures! He's still about 8" 'cause he's growing a bit slower now that he's a bit older.
I re-scaped his tank when I cleaned him out about 2 days ago.

He's really turning into a handsome boy now. I plan to bet him a female and breed him when he's older.

Alex is looking great!!!

I am getting a second one with in a few weeks - they are amazing little creatures aren't they?

I'm going to get a 3ft tank so Alex and Kyuubi(that's what I'm going to call her) can have a nice large house together. Obviously I'll grow the female up till she's a similar size to Alex or he'll eat her, lol.
I'm going to look for either a Black, Golden Albino or Piebald. I'm hoping for a Piebald because they are very rare to find, even on google. I've only ever seen one Piebald Axolotl for sale and it was pricey.

good luck finding a piebald - they are pretty elusive and often sold mislabeled. It is something you will probably "chance" upon than order.

Next week I should be getting my new one - I am going to be ordering a golden albino and possibly an albino or leucistic also. I am debating - I have to order them online as no pet stores with in 50 miles seem to carry them! I live in Rhode Island and have tried pet stores in three surrounding states and none carry or have access to ordering for me. Oh well...

That's why I'm hoping to get a piebald because bred with Alex the babies would be soooo cute!!!!
Get a Golden Albino. They're gorgeous!

Have a 5" golden albino being shipped to me tomorrow - so excited!

Had to fix the link because I broke it by reorganizing my photobucket

A male :) Would be lovely if in a year or two I could get him and my female wildtype to breed

My axo (also called Alex) now has 2 new friends, unwanted pets that came with a large secondhand tank I bought for him. They are almost the same age but a lot smaller (7in) because former owners didn't feed them much. At 16 months Alex is huge -11in and quite chunky. I'm hoping at least one of the new arrivals is a girl as 3 males would probably fight.Looking forward to my first baby axos.

At what age/size can they be reliably sexed?
What do axolotl eggs look like?

Alex is definitely old enough to be sexed - - over 5-6" and you should see what gender they are. Males will have a scrotum. Females will have a smoother cloaca area.

Males put down sperm sacs and the females will walk over them and pick them up. The eggs are small and white.

Here is a picture of my male golden albino - you can see the scrotum behind his back legs. He is about 5.5" long and was born in March of this year.
