This poem was sent to me via a friend and I thought maybe it would be nice ito read if you have recently lost a loved pet, or family member.

I Did Not Die

Do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in the snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am a gentle Autumn's rain
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
I am the birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
So do not stand on my grave and cry
I am not there.... I did not die

Melinda Sue Pacho

This was the same poem I was given years ago when the horse I leased, Justin, died. I found it again.

That is indeed a very famous poem and the author is most likely to be Mary Elizabeth Frye (though this has not been proven 100%). Interestingly enough a copy of "Do not stand at my Grave and Weep" was found in an envelope left by a young British soldier, Stephen Cummins, who was killed on active service in Northern Ireland. The envelope was to be opened by his parents in the event of his death. Along with the poem were photos and a letter. The immediate thought was that the soldier himself had penned it; this has since been proven wrong.

There are also several "versions" of this poem around but if you google it there are loads of information such as this here.

An incredibly touching poem indeed.

Yea it's definitely one of my favourite poems - I think the first time I read it I cried :-(
But then when you think about it, it's just such a beautiful poem and in a way reassuringly uplifting :)

Thank you so much for posting this poem. 2 years ago, my grandfather and his daughter(my aunt), passed away 12 days apart. Next week we are going to spread their ashes at my great aunts ranch. I am going to read this poem as I was unable to attend my grandpa's actual funeral.

And yes, I cried when I read it too. It is a beautiful poem.
